Management Team

Founded in 2002 by wireless industry veterans who have delivered commercially successful solutions for mobile phones, Bluetooth and WiFi products, Staccato has leveraged that expertise for UWB-based applications. Members of the team are active in promoting industry standards, international regulations, developing essential intellectual property, and delivering customer specified advanced products.

Marty Colombatto
Marty Colombatto
Chairman & Chief Executive Officer

Mr. Colombatto became Chairman and CEO of Staccato in January 2006 after serving on Staccato's board of directors since 2004. He brings with him 20 years of experience in engineering, strategic marketing, product development, sales, and merger & acquisition strategies and tactics. Most recently, he was vice president and general manager of the Networking Business Unit, Broadcom Corporation, where he established and managed a business unit that grew to more than $400 million in revenue over a four-year period. During his tenure at Broadcom, Mr. Colombatto participated in the acquisition of several companies, five of which were assimilated into his business unit. Prior to Broadcom, Mr. Colombatto managed sales organizations in Europe and North America for LSI Logic Corporation. Earlier in his career, he held positions as software development engineer for Reliance Electric and Field Sales Engineer with Texas Instruments.

Mr. Colombatto holds a Bachelor of Science degree in electronic engineering technology from California State Polytechnic University, Pomona.

Roberto Aiello

Founder & Chief Technical Officer

Dr. Aiello is a co-founder and CTO at Staccato Communications. He is responsible for making Ultra-Wideband (UWB) a commercial reality. He served as CEO for the first two and a half years. In his role, he led fundraising and set the company's business directions. He was previously founder, president and CEO at Fantasma Networks, a UWB product company where he led the fundraising, business planning and operations. Prior to Fantasma, Dr. Aiello joined Interval Research, Paul Allen's research laboratory, in 1996 to work on advanced wireless technologies where he led the wireless research and built the first documented UWB network. Fantasma Networks was a spin-off of Interval. He previously held senior positions at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center (SLAC) and the National Superconducting Super Collider Laboratory in Texas.

He is a recognized leader in the UWB community, and is actively involved in regulatory and standards-setting committees. Dr. Aiello has contributed to the spectrum regulations since 1996, and his efforts were instrumental in getting UWB spectrum allocated in the United States. He has currently turned his attention to worldwide regulations. He is a founding member of several standards committees, such as the UWB Working Group, the MultiBand Coalition, the MultiBand OFDM Alliance (MBOA) and now serves as an officer on the board for WiMedia.

Roberto Aiello holds a Ph.D. degree in physics from the University of Trieste. He has served and serves on several advisory boards, such as iPASS. He is the author of more than 20 patents on UWB technology.

Ken Molitor
Steven Larky
Vice President of Engineering

Mr. Larky joined Staccato as Vice President, Engineering in August 2007. Steven brings over 23 years of IC product development, engineering, and business unit management experience to Staccato. Steven joined from Cypress Semiconductor, where he held key management positions in the Consumer & Computation and Personal Communication divisions. In these roles, Steven was responsible for the P&L (>$130 million business) as well as all aspects of business and product development.  Most recently Steven was Vice-President and General Manager of the USB and Wireless business unit. Prior to assuming business unit responsibility, Steven managed the engineering organizations (80+ engineers) for these divisions and was responsible for all aspects of design and development for a variety of wired, wireless, and microcontroller IC products. In 1996, Steven joined a San Diego USB IC start-up named AnchorChips, where he led the design and verification of all IC products leading up to the Cypress acquisition in 1999.  Earlier in his career; Steven held a variety of senior design positions with Brooktree, Infotronic, and IBM. Steven received a BSEE from MIT.During the course of his career, Steven has been issued 36 U.S. patents.

Ken Molitor

Vice President of Operations

Mr. Molitor has served for more than 25 years in the semiconductor industry, specializing in operations and product development. Prior to joining Staccato, he was vice president of operations at fabless semiconductor TelASIC Communications, where he established the company's supply chain and successfully introduced the company's line of high speed digital and analog products for wireless base-stations. Prior to TelASIC, he was the president and CEO of Accelerant Networks, a fabless semiconductor company targeting the high speed transceiver market, and negotiated the successful sale of Accelerant to Synopsys in early 2004. Prior to Accelerant Networks, Mr. Molitor was the director of engineering & manufacturing operations for Dallas Semiconductor Corp, now a subsidiary of Maxim Integrated Products. In this position, he was responsible for worldwide End of Line Manufacturing, Production & Development Engineering and the Quality & Reliability organization. His department supported Dallas Semiconductor's entire 3,000+ products with annual sales in excess of $500M and demonstrated significant improvements in Quality/Reliability, gross profit margins, and new product time to market. Earlier in his career, Mr. Molitor held design and product engineering positions at Cypress Semiconductor and at Mostek Corporation. He holds a BSEE degree from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

Jeff Gray
Vice President of Sales and Business Development

Mr. Gray has over 23 years of design, applications, sales, marketing and business development experience. Most recently, Jeff was at Glonav, a manufacturer of GPS silicon and software. He has also held senior level positions at Chipidea Microelectronics, Apogee, Sandburst, and Brecis Communications. During the course of his career, Jeff has lived and worked in Asia, Europe and North America where he held positions with STM Microelectronics, Infineon, and Cyrix. Jeff holds an HND in Electromechanical Engineering and an OND in Mechanical Engineering from Portsmouth University .

Vice President of Marketing

Mr. Chang joined Staccato in April 2005. He has been involved in the development and deployment of USB technology since it's inception over 10 years ago. Prior to joining Staccato, Jeff held various roles in marketing and business unit management at Cypress Semiconductor. Most recently he was the Business Unit Director of the USB Product Line, where he helped grow the business from its early phases to >$120M in annual revenue and >40% market share of the USB controller market. In his various marketing and management roles, Jeff has defined and managed a portfolio of products that has exceeded shipments of 500 million units servicing the personal computing, consumer electronics, and mobile market segments. Jeff holds a BSEE degree from the University of Washington .
